The Caribbean's premier sailing destination, The British Virgin Islands is distinguished by emerald mountains, calm turquoise waters, and an ambience of glamour.

The British Virgin Islands, comprised of over 60 islands in a volcanic archipelago, is renowned for its stunning natural beauty and international culture; a luxury holiday here could see you hiking the lush Sage Mountain National Park to sailing between ports on an island-hopping tour. Surrounded by crystalline waters, the British Virgin Islands is an excellent destination for snorkelling and scuba diving, with The Baths being one of the best on Virgin Gorda for the variety of marine life found in the tidal pools and underwater caves.

Tortola, the main island, is the starting point for any journey through the British Virgin Islands and the ideal location to experience a variety of attractions; discover dozens of secluded palm-shaded beaches, including the scenic Cane Garden Bay and Brewer's Bay, tour historical forts that dot the island, and dine in the company of picturesque harbour views with a wide variety of excellent waterfront restaurants. Stay in an exclusive villa or luxury resort on Virgin Gorda, the third-largest island, and spend your days discovering endemic flora across the numerous protected nature sanctuaries, swimming off the shores of unspoiled beaches and taking in sites that demonstrate the region's African, Indian and Spanish heritage such as the Spanish ruins at Little Fort National Park and the Cornish Copper Mines.

The British Virgin Islands, with its luxury boutique hotels and exclusive private island resorts, is an ideal destination for couples, particularly those on their honeymoon. Honeymooners seeking complete privacy and undisturbed tranquillity can book an exclusive retreat to Richard Branson's Necker Island or Guana Island, private islands with world-class amenities and wonderful experiences such as private swimming pools, candlelit dinners on the beach, and guided oceanic excursions.

Things to do in
British Virgin Islands
Swimming The Baths of Virgin Gorda

The Baths of Virgin Gorda, named after the natural sea pools and grottoes formed by the dispersion of granitic boulders across the bay, are consistently ranked as one of the most popular marine activities in the British Virgin Islands. Ideal for a sheltered swim in the ocean or shallow snorkelling, spend an afternoon exploring the protected pools and the surrounding boulder caves.

Hiking Gorda Peak National Park

Away from the sandy beaches, the British Virgin Island's inland terrain is home to a spectacular variety of flora and fauna. Gorda Peak National Park, which is home to the island's highest peak, showcases a number of these species throughout its rainforest environment, which can be best observed on an enthralling hike along its two marked trails, where you can expect to see reptiles, tree frogs, numerous bird species, bats, soldier crabs, and the world's smallest lizard, the Virgin Gorda gecko.

Snorkelling the Shipwreck in Rhone National Marine Park

Formed over the course of over a century, the coral-encrusted skeleton of a sunken ship in Rhone National Park is one of the most visually fascinating coral structures in the Caribbean. Suitable for intermediate divers, this peculiar demonstration of nature's absorption of a manmade structure is sure to enchant all those who visit, with snapper, grunts, soldierfish, and parrotfish found throughout the embossed steel.

Cane Garden Bay

Cane Garden Bay, located on Tortola's northwestern coast, is one of the island's most lively areas, a hotspot for watersports with a laidback atmosphere among the shores, with dozens of restaurants and beach clubs lining the sandy beach. Spend the afternoon undertaking a few of the activities on offer, such as surfing and jet skiing, before sitting back with a drink and watching the sunset at a glamorous waterfront dining venue.

Island Hopping

Explore the lesser-known islands of the archipelago on an island-hopping tour. Travel by ferry or charter a private catamaran and depart from the main harbour, the British Virgin Islands Cruise Port in Road Town, and discover why the archipelago has earned a reputation as the region's unrivalled sailing destination, with steady trade winds and calm currents.
