Characterised by diverse natural terrain of lush forestry, roaring waterfalls and docile volcanoes, Costa Rica's rich and ripe environment is a world of its own. With over 5% of the world's biodiversity calling the region home, Costa Rica offers travellers an exciting opportunity to encounter some of the planet's most fascinating creatures against a backdrop of untouched tropical rainforest.
Charlie's Top Tip: With so much rainforest to explore, make sure you stay at Pacuare Lodge whilst in Costa Rica, a National Geographic lodge situated deep in the Pacuare Rainforest and only accessible by white water raft.
Charlie's Favourite Experience: White water rafting into Pacuare Lodge through the rapids with sloths and monkeys hanging above.
Charlie's Top Hotel: Pacuare Lodge
Known as the "White Continent", Antarctica's raw and ethereal landscapes boast an unworldly, astounding beauty roamed by a plethora of unique wildlife species including penguins, whales and seabirds. Populated with crystalline glaciers, expansive ice sheets and dazzling mountains, the raw Antarctic environment is one for adventurers.
Charlie's Top Tip: If budget and time permits, I would 100% recommend visiting South Georgia en-route to Antarctica. Here, 3 million breeding pairs that live in South Georgia make up the largest macaroni penguin population in the world. The history linked to South Georgia is also fascinating too, with the explorer Ernest Shackleton arriving there in lifeboats after his ship became trapped in pack ice.
Charlie's Favourite Experience: Watching a mother humpback whale teach her calf to dive. We watched for hours as the mother tried to teach her calf how to bring its fluke up.
Charlie's Top Ship: Ultramarine
The only Portuguese-speaking nation of South America, Brazil has forged a unique and distinct identity, not just within its home continent, but across the world. Homing over 60% of the Amazon rainforest, Brazil is one of the most biodiverse countries on Earth, establishing the country as a leading global eco-tourism destination. Celebrated for its varied and eclectic culture, the country's vibrance can be best observed in the capital city of Rio De Janeiro, home to some of the nation's most famous beaches and the birthplace of the world's largest festival, Rio Carnival.
Charlie's Top Tip: You must visit the Pantanal between August and September to see the jaguar in its natural habitat. The Caiman Ecological Refuge work with Oncafari who preserve the habitation of the jaguar, with ecotourism acting as an important conservation tool.
Charlie's Favourite Experience: Dancing the night away at The Carnival in Rio de Janeiro.
Charlie's Top Hotel: Ponta dos Ganchos Exclusive Resort
Considerably smaller than its bordering neighbours yet equally spectacular, Ecuador & the Galapagos Islands is an unmissable destination on any South American itinerary. A rising eco-tourism destination, the nation's natural treasures include the Mindo Forest Reserve and the Galapagos Islands, which home a number of rare, endemic wildlife species including the marine iguana and the famous Galapagos sea lion. Culturally, the nation is celebrated for its vast collection of well-preserved historical sites and landmarks, some of the best in South America!
Charlie's Top Tip: Make sure you take a Galapagos Cruise to be able to see the far-flung islands which are not accessible when staying at an island lodge. Each island offers different wildlife such as the albatross, which can only be found on the Espanola Island.
Charlie's Favourite Experience: Snorkelling with hammerhead sharks in the Galapagos Islands.
Charlie's Top Hotel: MV Theory Galapagos
Residing on the South East coast of the South American continent, Chile is renowned for its dense cultural history and extraordinary variety of natural landscapes. From the roaring Andes mountain range and the bone-dry Atacama Desert to the vibrant Chilean Lake District, the landscapes of Chile are brimming with culture and adventure, each unique to anywhere else in the world.
Charlie's Top Tip: Spend time in Chile just visiting the width and breadth of this incredible country, from the vast Atacama Desert in the north, the wine lands in the central valleys and then Torres del Paine in the deep south of Patagonia. Make sure to pack layers - it is true that in Chile you can be in all 4 seasons in one day!
Charlie's Favourite Experience: Taking a private helicopter ride up to the Glacier National Park in Chile and hiking across the glacial ice flow.
Charlie's Top Hotel: The Singular Patagonia
South America's second-largest country, Argentina is a vibrant nation with a spectacular history and natural landscapes that rival those of its neighbours. With a variety of experiences unique to the nation, such as visiting the Perito Morena Glacier, one of Patagonia's largest, and exploring the Mendoza wine district, homing over 1,500 wineries, it's clear why Argentina is one of Charlie's top picks. From ancient riverbeds and 17th-century landmarks to the modern cosmopolitan city of Buenos Aires, Argentina's rich and enduring history can be felt at every corner of this remarkable country.
Charlie's Top Tip: For something really exclusive, I highly recommend taking a helicopter ride over the Iguazu Falls to get a spectacular bird’s eye view of the cascading water below.
Charlie's Favourite Experience: Flying over the Iguazu Falls in a helicopter.

One of the oldest inhabited countries in the world, Peru is a melting pot of diverse cultures, rich history and sublime natural wonders. Whether you're trekking through the Amazon, exploring the exquisite Incan citadel of Machu Picchu, or learning about the unique culture of the indigenous Uros people, your trip to Peru will undoubtedly fill you with awe.
Charlie's Top Tip: There is much more to see and do in Peru than just Machu Picchu. With experiences ranging from Amazon cruises and lodges, the largest adobe city, the largest navigable lake in the world, and the ancient Nazca lines, it really has something for everyone.

The northernmost region of the Earth, the Arctic is one of the world's most mystifying and fascinating destinations. A symbol of the region is undoubtedly the polar bear, though the Arctic is also home to a surprising amount of wildlife including the Arctic fox, Arctic ground squirrel, moose, walruses and wolves. With the 'midnight sun' phenomenon in the summer and the ethereal Northern Lights in the winter, the Arctic is very much a world unto its own.
Charlie's Top Tip: Make sure to include a visit to Svalbard during the summer months, situated in the Norwegian archipelago between mainland Norway and the North Pole. The 24-hour sunlight provides the perfect environment to see polar bears in their natural habitat.
Charlie's Favourite Experience: The incredible wildlife sightings, including a blue whale and a polar bear with her two week old cub.
Charlie's Top Ship: Ultramarine
