The Seychelles is easily one of the most beautiful destinations in the world, let us show you why!
I was in love with the Seychelles from the moment we arrived. As soon as I stepped out of the car we were met with big smiles and a customary hand-on-heart greeting from MAIA Luxury Resort & Spa’s management team. I turned around to find my suitcases were already being taken care of and I breathed a sigh of relief that the staff didn’t wince under the weight of my bags!
I was handed a refreshingly cold towel and was welcomed into the resort’s main lobby where I was met by our own personal chef who told me that he would happily prepare anything we wanted to eat, at any time of the day, and serve it at any location we wanted to dine at. Now this, I can get used to.
Our personal butler took us to our honeymoon hillside hideaway; the MAIA Signature Villa and happily handed me the keys to open the door. I almost jumped for joy when I opened them and was met by the huge sumptuous bed and my suitcases neatly stacked by the side. Our butler swiftly side-stepped over and explained to me with a reassuring smile that they were here to look after us 24/7, and that nothing was too much to ask for.
As I stepped out on the balcony and felt the sun on my skin, I was almost immediately stopped in my tracks by the view. Right in front of me was a huge infinity edge pool surrounded by cushioned sun loungers, overlooking paradise. "This must be one of the best beaches in the Seychelles," I thought to myself.
We didn't need to work out where to go in the Seychelles, as the resort took care of everything for us. I never dreamed that I’d have the chance in my life to go scuba diving into such stunning coral gardens and hauntingly beautiful shipwreck sites. We swam alongside lobsters, barracuda, rays and even whale sharks, the latter being such an incredible moment that I’ll never forget. My partner even got out the Go Pro and got a shot of me swimming next to a school of smiling stingrays; that’s going on Instagram.
Above the water we caught the sun on kayaks and canoes, tried to keep our balance on stand-up paddle boards and even tried our hands at deep-sea fishing. After exploring the depths of the Indian Ocean waters, I cannot tell you how wonderful it was to head back to our secluded honeymoon haven and find the candles were already lit and a petal-laden bath was already drawn in our two-person soaking tub, with two glasses of wine on the side just for good measure. This might be the best Seychelles honeymoon ever!
One evening after sundown, we found ourselves at the beautiful MAIA Spa. My senses were suddenly tuned to notice the soothing sounds of rainwater running down the boulders and the lemongrass and cinnamon fragrances that filled the air.
We decided to indulge in the Couples Full Moon Massage, and was led to the rooftop spa pavilion which we were told was the highest point in the resort, and I was immediately in awe of the beautiful silvery moon and the endless blanket of stars that twinkled both above us and was reflected in the ocean waters below. The massage experience was nothing like I had ever experienced before, it was so blissful and the perfect views of the flickering moon in the waters made it feel like time had stood still.
After waking up to an Instagram-worthy breakfast in bed, we arrived at the resort’s helipad to a cheerful pilot telling us that our helicopter was waiting! I couldn’t believe it, as I climbed inside I could hear the propellers beginning to stir. We soon took off and the view was absolutely astounding, we flew over the Seychelles’ tree-topped mountains that at ground-level looked like they touched the sky and headed towards the endless ocean waters. If you ever visit the Seychelles, this is a must!
After a mesmerising journey we soon landed on a pristine white sand beach with not a single person in sight, the only thing breaking up the 1km stretch of sands and emerald palms was a beautiful champagne picnic for two. As we clinked glasses to toast this perfectly romantic Robinson Crusoe Seychelles escape, it dawned on me that the MAIA Luxury Resort & Spa has to be one of the best resorts in Seychelles. The only thing that could top this? The in-villa barbecue that I knew would be waiting for us upon our return…
