You'll never find a destination more dreamy than this one!
Sitting like a jewel in the South Pacific Ocean between Los Angeles and New Zealand, Bora Bora is a holiday destination unlike any I have seen before. Everybody knows that Bora Bora holidays are a special experience, but arriving at the St. Regis was like stepping into a dream or an alternate paradise universe. I was immediately captivated by the kaleidoscope of colours before my eyes: calm topaz lagoon waters, shining white sands, lush emerald-hued palms and the emblematic brown of the thatched roofs that have become synonymous with French Polynesia.
As we were transported by buggy along the boardwalk to our villa, excitement rushed through my body like a surge of electricity. A sumptuous and spacious lounge area, a lavish bedroom complete with a plush king-sized bed, and a spectacular bathroom with twin basins and sunken bath tub - it was far more luxurious than anything I had seen before! When I finally peeled my eyes away from the beauty surrounding me, I noticed glass panels in the floor that teased the ocean views that we would find beyond the doors to our deck. As I stepped out onto our private terrace and into the shining Bora Bora sun, I was left speechless by the picture-perfect image in front of me: sparkling azure ocean as far as the eye could see, an endless horizon of shimmering tranquil waters.
After a remarkable first day of lounging on our private deck and plunging into the warm turquoise lagoon below our stunning overwater villa, just when I thought our Bora Bora holiday couldn’t get any more special, we were treated to an exquisite picnic on the diamond-white beach of the hotel. We ate and drank together on the secluded shores, feeling like we were the only two people in the world – a perfect activity for a Bora Borahoneymoon!
After the incredible meal, we decided to have an underwater adventure and make use of the complimentary snorkelling equipment. It wasn’t long before we were gazing at the tropical marine life that calls these waters home: a myriad of exotic multi-coloured fish were swimming beneath us amongst vibrant corals and we had a front row seat to the wondrous show.
What could possibly be better than a day at a spa while on the holiday of a lifetime? How about a day at a spa that occupies its own island in an exclusive lagoon in the South Pacific Ocean! The Miri Miri Spa of the St. Regis was every inch as beautiful as you could possibly imagine: opulent, sumptuous and lavish are the best words that I can use, and they still just don’t cover it. With a private beach, sauna, steam room and whirlpool all available for guests to enjoy, we were spoilt for choice.
The highlight of the day, though, had to be the signature Miri Miri massage that I chose. For 90 heavenly minutes, I felt as though I had been transported to a far-away haven of relaxation and serenity. Every bone, every muscle, every nerve in my body melted like warm honey in a pot under the expert touch of my wonderful massage therapist. I left the spa feeling refreshed and relaxed beyond compare, and my partner and I spent the afternoon in the radiant sunshine on the beach, just knowing that we’d never find a serene experience like this again. If tranquillity has a home, trust me, it’s on this exclusive island.
Dinner each night was like visiting a new corner of the world. From the exclusive Lagoon Restaurant, serving French-Asian cuisine curated by Michelin-star chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten himself, to the stunning views and hearty Italian dishes of the Far Niente restaurant, every mouthful was a pleasure to the senses. After each delicious meal, we would retreat to the lavish comfort of the Aparima Bar and enjoy spectacular cocktails as the waves rolled gently up the beach right in front of us.
But for anybody wondering what to do in Bora Bora, the answer is a no-brainer: have a romantic dinner on the beach, of course. We thought that we’d experienced the height of romance with our incredible picnic, but boy were we wrong! On our last night at the beautiful St. Regis, we walked down to the beach just before sunset and were warmly greeted by our private waiter and assured that he would take care of everything and anything that we would need for the evening. Our table was sublime: candle-lit, right by the calm turquoise water and offering an incomparable view of the dramatic sunset as it illuminated the skies in opulent shades of pink and orange over the horizon. Our meal was beyond compare, a mouth-watering three-course masterpiece that I wished would never end, just like the rest of our holiday. No trip to Bora Bora, whether it’s a honeymoon or a general holiday, would be complete without experiencing dinner on the pristine white shores.
