Check out our unforgettable Sri Lanka adventure!
Begin your trip in Colombo, Sri Lanka’s capital on the south-west coast. Here you’ll be welcomed whole heartedly into the warm and hospitable Sri Lankan culture. With many of its influences coming from India, Sri Lanka is often regarded as an introduction to that rich nation, with less of a culture shock and a more accessible nature. Think colourful markets, haphazard architecture and endlessly enticing sights and smells.
Heading either just south or just north out of Colombo however will bring you the Sri Lanka of your imagination, upon arrival to the resorts of Kalutara or Negombo respectively. Here beaches are king and wide stretches of pristine sand meet the clear blue ocean. Spend your days lazing in the heat of the equator sun, diving or snorkelling on the reefs or enjoying the splendour of the plethora of luxury hotels here.
For a change of scenery and a magical experience, head south-east to Yala National Park, or central north for Minneriya National Park, for a day or two of safaris and impossibly beautiful flora and fauna. Creeping up on elephants, leopards, and water buffalo in their natural habitat, watch as these fascinating animals play out day to day life in the wild. Have your camera at the ready; you’re going to need it! There are over 5,800 wild elephants to see in Sri Lanka, but you could also volunteer an elephant sanctuary to get up close and personal with these gentle giants by helping to wash and feed them - a once in a lifetime experience for many.
Finally, meeting in the middle of the two national parks is Nuwara Eliya, a rural town in the heart of the rolling tea hills. For lovers of tea and nature alike this is a must visit. Go out into the tea fields and pick your own leaves, or simply wonder at the idyllic, emerald green landscapes. Plus, with gorgeous colonial architecture and tranquil hotel retreats, this is a place to fully relax after the excitement of the national parks and beaches.
