Where to go Month-by-Month in 2021

For the most part, travel has been put on pause this 2020, with us all taking the time to slow down and appreciate the small things that make where we live special. However, now that 2021 approaches, we're all dreaming of getting on a plane and jetting off somewhere new, whether it's the beautiful beaches of the Maldives or the dense jungles of Borneo. Here's our selection of where you should visit in 2021, month-by-month...

Here's where you should go month-by-month next 2021!

January - Sri Lanka

Flight Time from UK: 13 Hours
Average Temperature: 27°C
Where Best to Twin: The Maldives

Where better to begin the year than Sri Lanka? Known rather fondly as 'The Teardrop of India', Sri Lanka is small but diverse, its lush interior characterised by vast tea plantations, its coastline by wind-swept tropical beaches. With January bringing dry, sunny weather, this is the best time to embark on a trip around the country's Cultural Triangle, visiting sites such as the impressive Sigiriya Fortress and the sacred Temple of the Tooth in Kandy. The journey from Kandy to Ella is best travelled by train, the route considered as one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world. Just an hour south from Ella is the Dream Cliff Mountain Resort, where we recommend staying if you're looking for boutique luxury, breathtaking views and unique accommodation. Afterwards, you can unwind from your cultural travels on the beach; we particularly love the luxurious Amanwella, its tropical beach lined with palm trees and soft, golden sand.

February - The Maldives

Flight Time from UK: 12 Hours 30 Minutes
Average Temperature: 29.5°C
Where Best to Twin: Sri Lanka

If you're looking for paradise, then the Maldives isn't far from it. There's no wonder this island nation in the Indian Ocean is on practically everyone's bucket list; with some of the finest 5-star resorts in the world, a holiday to the Maldives is one of exquisite food, luxurious villas, paradisaical beaches and, of course, azure, crystal-clear lagoons. The Maldives' hidden charm is that it really is in the middle of nowhere, and sometimes, this is exactly what we all need to fully unwind. With February being the driest month in the Maldives, you can be assured that you'll experience a minimal amount of - if any - rain, so that you can really make the most of the stunning natural surroundings. For somewhere that extra bit special, you certainly won't be disappointed at Fairmont Maldives Sirru Fen FushiSituated in the beautiful Shaviyani Atoll, this elegant 5-star resort captures the spirit of the Maldives, offering excursions such as Castaway Picnics and immersive Scuba Diving Expeditions, as well as gorgeous villas that will simply blow you away.

March - Japan

Flight Time from UK: 14 Hours 30 Minutes
Average Temperature12°C
Where Best to Twin: Bora Bora

A visit to Japan in March boasts all the beauties of the beginnings of spring without the larger crowds of April when the cherry blossoms have fully bloomed. With a varying cool to mild temperature, this time of year is ideal for exploring the country's iconic temples and natural scenery and really getting inside the cultural heart of Japan. With train travel being so efficient, we recommend getting a Japan Rail Pass for your stay so that you're free to move around and see more of Japan; you can explore the temples and shrines of Kyoto, the Michelin-star restaurants of Osaka and the futuristic shopping precincts of Tokyo, all on the same holiday. For a traditional Japanese ryokan experience, we particularly love Luxury Hotel Sowaka in Kyoto, offering minimalist interiors and historic city views. For a more modern flavour of Japan, make sure to stay in Mandarin Oriental Tokyo, known for its contemporary and sleek design.

April - Vietnam

Flight Time from UK: 11 Hours 30 Minutes
Average Temperature: 31°C
Where Best to Twin: Cambodia

There really is something for everyone in Vietnam, whether you want to hit the beach, discover historic sites or head into nature. Whatever your interests, it goes without saying that when visiting Vietnam, you definitely shouldn't stay in one place. Starting in the capital, Hanoi, you can begin by exploring the city's historic streets (with street food on most corners!), and then head to the Hoàng Liên Son Mountains in the northwest for the rice paddies of Sapa, or head east to the glorious Halong Bay, for a cruise in otherworldly surroundings. Afterwards, you can make your way south, visiting the historic cities of Hue and Hoi An, before arriving in the steaming tropics of Ho Chi Minh City (previously known as Saigon) and the Mekong Delta. To end with a relaxing beach escape, head to the tranquil island of Phu Quoc, staying in the gorgeous spa-inclusive Fusion Resort Ph Quoc with direct access on to a picturesque beach.

May - Bali

Flight Time from UK: 16 Hours
Average Temperature: 28°C
Where Best to Twin: Singapore

Bali is the epitome of the exotic, its lush rainforests, ancient temples and tropical beaches luring travellers from all across the globe year-on-year. And yes, whilst Bali is undoubtedly set firmly on the tourist trail, it doesn't stop this small island enchanting all who visit, its beautiful natural surroundings and laid-back culture exuding an aura of peace and serenity. A holiday to Bali is not complete without a stay in Ubud, a small town situated in the lush uplands of Bali. Here, you can really take a step back and appreciate the tranquility of the Edenic environment, spending your time hiking to waterfalls, exploring monkey forests and discovering verdant rice terraces. We particularly love COMO Shambhala Estate, its dazzling pool villas perfect for immersing yourself in rainforest surroundings. Afterwards, head south to Bali's southern coastline and devour the refreshing coastal breeze, the sublime beach at Bvlgari Resort Bali the perfect way to end your tropical adventure.

June - Borneo

Where Best to Twin: Bali

For all those intrepid explorers out there, Borneo is calling to you. Brought to our screens through the likes of Sir David Attenborough and Dame Judi Dench, Borneo really is a step into the wild, its vast rainforests home to arguably the world's most lovable primate: the orangutan. June is the best time to visit Borneo if you're looking to spot orangutans in the wild; not only does it fall in the dry season, but it sees the start of the fruiting season, meaning that it's a fairly common sight to see these gentle creatures up high in the trees, devouring the delicious wonders of the rainforest. A stay at the Sukau Rainforest Lodge is the perfect way to experience the rainforest, as you'll embark on daily river safaris and overland treks - all included as part of your stay - with local experts taking you to secluded spots within the rainforest that are regularly frequented by the region's iconic wildlife. After your action-packed time in the rainforest, take the time to experience Borneo's tropical coastline, staying at the eco-orientated Gaya Island Resort for exhilarating watersports and indulgent relaxation.

July - French Polynesia

An exclusive holiday destination, French Polynesia's landscapes are characterised by lush, tropical flora and glassy turquoise lagoons, with a combination of coral atolls and volcanic islands. Whilst Bora Bora steals much of the glory (and it's not hard to see why!), we recommend you visit a few of the Society Islands on your holiday to really immerse yourself in the Polynesian culture. Starting in Tahiti, you can explore the bustling markets of Papeete before discovering the pink-sand beaches of Tikehau Pearl Beach Resortthe lush mountain landscapes of Moorea and the vibrant coral reefs of Bora Bora. From the bustling markets of the capital, Port Louis, to the lush Black River Gorges National Park, there is plenty to see and do on this small island. However, what really sets Mauritius apart is its world-renowned ivory-sand beaches, its dazzling protected marine parks home to a rich array of exotic marine life. With endless sunny skies and consistently warm temperatures, November is an ideal time to visit Mauritius; we particularly recommend staying at the 5-star LUX* Belle Mare, home to the island's largest swimming pool and nestled on a long, sandy stretch of beach.

December - Oman

You'll feel completely immersed in this ancient land as soon as you arrive in Muscat, a historic port city with roots dating back to the early 1st Century. Luxury is certainly to be found in the city, with a stay at The Chedi Muscat meaning you can enjoy 5-star elegance on a beautiful stretch of beach. From Muscat, we highly recommend you take a day trip to Wadi Shab, where you can walk, climb and swim through this otherworldly canyon with opalescent water.
