Welcome to Antananarivo (or 'Tana', as the locals call it), Madagascar's vibrant capital city. At the airport, you'll be greeted by an English-speaking representative and taken to your first hotel by private car transfer. Sit back and admire the colourful colonial architecture of this historic city.

Day 1-2
1 night stay at Relais Des Plateaux Hotel and Spa

An oasis in Antananarivo, Relais Des Plateaux Hotel and Spa is surrounded by lush, tropical flora, and is just five minutes from Ivato International airport. The ideal place to feel refreshed after your flight, make the most of the hotel's outdoor swimming pool and relaxing spa facilities.

Day 2
Fly from Antananarivo to Ifotaka

After a refreshing night's sleep, you're now feeling excited to begin your Madagascar tour. You'll board a scheduled charter flight to Ifotaka, located on the south of the island. Taking approximately two to three hours, it won't be long before you're met by your private chauffeur from the luxury Mandrare River Camp.

Day 2-6
4 nights stay at Mandrare River Camp

Exclusively remote, Mandrare River Camp offers you an unparalleled experience in southern Madagascar's Mandrare Valley. With only seven bespoke tents, your time here will be one of adventure and exploration. When the day is done, make sure to take a dip in the outdoor pool or unwind with a cold drink in the rustic riverside bar.

Day 3
Sacred Spiny Forest

Your first day in the Mandrare Valley will see you really getting into the heart of this remote wilderness. After breakfast, you'll head out to the stunning Sacred Gallery Forest, located just south of the camp. Depending on the river depth, you'll either walk or take a boat across the Mandrare River to reach the largely deciduous forest. Home to inquisitive groups of ring-tailed lemurs and the always entertaining Verreaux's sifaka, you'll have the chance to spot these unique creatures as you wander through the forest.

After a delightful lunch at the camp and a relaxed afternoon by the pool, you'll head out in the late afternoon for a walk through the other-worldly Sacred Spiny Forest, filled with an extraordinary array of unique flora and fauna, and the ancestral tombs of the local Antandroy tribe. Your English speaking guide and a tracker from the local community will give you an introduction to Antandroy culture and customs. To end the day, you'll enjoy sundowners on the Mandrare River banks.

Day 4
The Antandroy Tribe

Your second day in the Mandrare Valley will see you head back into the Spiny Forest for an early morning walk; rather beautifully, you'll witness the sunlight break through the octopus trees whilst looking for the many endemic birds in the region, such as the crested coua, a variety of vangas and the running coua.

After a sumptuous breakfast back at the camp, you'll experience an immersive visit to the local market (on Thursdays and Saturdays) or to the local village, where you'll meet the fascinating Antandroy tribe. After lunch at the camp, followed by a relaxed afternoon watching life along the river from your tent terrace, you'll depart for a sundowner amidst the baobabs; watching the sun set and moon rise with a view across the Baobabs to the mountains beyond is a truly magical experience. In the evening, the local village may come to perform beautiful traditional dances, accompanied by singing and music. Song and dance is at the heart of Antandroy culture and is used to accompany the major rituals and events of everyday life.

Day 5
Lac Anony

Today, you'll take a day trip to the breathtaking Lac Anony, a sweeping salt water lake separated from the Indian Ocean by a series of large sand dunes. A two hour drive from the camp, Lac Anony is home to Greater Flamingos and a variety of salt water birds; make sure to bring your camera! On arrival, you'll walk along the lake shore to a beautiful picnic spot for a scrumptious lunch. Then, you'll scale the 70-foot high sand dunes for an incredible view of the surrounding area, before concluding with a refreshing swim in the lake.

Day 6
Fly from Ifotaka to Antananarivo

Today marks the end of your time in the Mandrare Valley! After being taken back to the airstrip, you'll board two domestic flights before arriving back in Antananarivo. Once there, you'll be met by your private chauffeur and taken to your next hotel.

Day 6
Andasibe National Park

En-route to the Mantadia Lodge, you'll be fortunate enough to stop off at Andasibe National Park. Home to more than a dozen unique lemur species - as well as several types of chameleon - the lush and humid landscape here is far removed from the aridity of the Mandrare Valley. As well as visiting the park, make sure to take in the view outside; Andasibe offers quaint views of rice fields, roadside stalls and red brick houses. Why not stop for a photograph or two?

Day 6-7
1 night stay at Mantadia Lodge

Overlooking a forest canopy, Mantadia Lodge effortlessly incorporates itself into its natural surroundings; its outdoor swimming pool even has sweeping views across the canopy.

After checking in at the hotel and enjoying a refreshing lunch, you'll embark on an afternoon visit to a private local reserve that's committed to reforestation and community education. Here, you'll discover even more of Madagascar's unique wildlife, as well as planting your own indigenous plant species along the reforestation trail.

Day 7
Fly from Antananarivo to Nosy Be

You're off to Madagascar's tropical north-western coastline! After being taken to the airport by private car transfer, you're now on your way to the island of Nosy Be. Once landed, you'll be met by your representative from Tsara Komba Luxury Beach Forest Lodge, who'll take you by private boat transfer to the island of Nosy Komba.

Day 7-11
4 nights stay at Tsara Komba Luxury Beach and Forest Lodge

Exuding rustic, tropical luxury, Tsara Komba Luxury Beach and Forest Lodge is an eco-hotel set beautifully on the beach. With a selection of exclusive lodges, you can wake up to ocean views whilst enjoying the secluded, lush surroundings. With locally-inspired dishes, soothing spa treatments and sun loungers on the beach, this is your time to indulge and unwind.

Day 7-11
Tsara Komba

Tsara Komba is pure paradise, a tranquil, tropical haven in Madagascar's north-western Nosy Be archipelago. During your stay, you can fill your days with your own selection of activities; the hotel can arrange customised excursions to neighbouring islands, as well as scuba diving, snorkelling and quad biking adventures. Make sure to spend some time relaxing on the beach, and feast on a delicious selection of local Malagasy dishes.

Day 11
Fly from Nosy Be to UK

Your Madagascar holiday has sadly come to an end! After taking the private boat transfer back to Nosy Be, you'll proceed to Antananarivo by domestic flight. Upon arrival in the capital, your chauffeur will take you to Relais Des Plateaux Hotel and Spa where you'll have a room for day use before your international flight back to the UK via Paris. As you look back and reflect on your holiday, do not hesitate to contact your Luxury Travel Specialist when you want to start planning your next adventure.
